About AIRES® UFRJ
AIRES, short for The Artificial Intelligence and Robothics Ethics Society®, is an international non-profit organization dedicated to promoting ethical principles in the creation and application of AI. Its core purpose is to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and collective engagement in building a future where AI systems act for the benefit of society, guided by responsibility and respect for human values.
Founded in 2018 in the United States, at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), by researcher Aaron Hui, AIRES emerged with the goal of addressing the subject through conferences, podcasts, workshops, and scientific publications aimed at professionals in the field.
In Brazil, its journey began at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), which hosted the organization’s first international chapter. This expansion reached a new milestone with the official inauguration of its branch in southeastern Brazil in 2023, in partnership with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).
